Description
A copse of trees in dappled shade viewed from within- Portrait format. Probably a view of a wood in England. later in B Fleming’s career.
Commentary
Possible the same subject as Cat 40. An accomplished exploration of the play of light through a copse. Taking a near ground viewpoint to enhance the drama of the composition, There is a strong feel- ing from the capture of light and shade, that Barbara Fleming was amongst this stand of trees as she painted, the same subject as Alec at Cat 40. The semi pointillist application of paint, with more colour directly from the tube, with smaller more hesitant brush marks is typical of B Fleming.
