Description
A rank of ceramic an d terracotta jars and bottles.
Commentary
This modernist still life draws on influences of Italian mid century painters such as Morandi and Severini. Radically different in style and approach to much of the body of Alec Flemings work, likely a work by Barbara’s hand.
Attribution
Attributed to Barbara Fleming.
Given to Barbara Fleming in the catalogue.
Catalogue wording: “Barbara Fleming”
Verso
A Fleming in block capitals - in marker.
The reverse is marked “A Fleming” in block capitals. Many boards in the collection carry this marking, and some of them are considered to be by Barbara Fleming. The marking may record ownership rather than authorship and is not treated here as evidence of attribution.
Condition
Fair. Significant crazing to the surface of the background- possibly from emulsification. Slight flattening of corners.
