Description
Two stands of trees above a carpet of pink flowers.
Commentary
An orthodox natural scene. The flowers and wheat field in the middle distance are typical of Barbara Fleming’s painting style. Lifted paint suggests this is painted over an earlier red toned painting likely by Alec Fleming.
Attribution
Attributed to Barbara Fleming.
Given to Barbara Fleming in the catalogue.
Catalogue wording: “B Fleming”
Verso
A Fleming in faded pen to verso. with stretcher wedges in place.
The reverse is marked “A Fleming” in block capitals. Many boards in the collection carry this marking, and some of them are considered to be by Barbara Fleming. The marking may record ownership rather than authorship and is not treated here as evidence of attribution.
Condition
Some lifting and red paint contact marks against the painted surface of the sky.
