Description
White houses nestled in a valley with a white rail fence to the foreground and autumnal trees.
Commentary
Whilst this bears the inscription A Fleming in pencil on the verso. Nothing in this painting suggests Alec Fleming. The style is naive, possibly a copy of a Swedish folk painting, certainly from a photograph.
Attribution
Attributed to Barbara Fleming.
Given to Barbara Fleming in the catalogue.
Catalogue wording: “Barbara Fleming”
Verso
A Fleming in pencil.
The reverse is marked “A Fleming” in block capitals. Many boards in the collection carry this marking, and some of them are considered to be by Barbara Fleming. The marking may record ownership rather than authorship and is not treated here as evidence of attribution.
Condition
Fair Unvarnished.
