Description
A bearded young man, seated at a table in a high back chair, wearing a yellow shirt and brown tie.
Commentary
An unusual subject for Barbara Fleming. Possibly painted in an experimental style, almost naive, with thin paint and pencil marks clearly visible through the paint. Possibly unfinished. Possibly an early at- tempt by Barbara to paint from life. Possibly around 1960 and possibly a sketch of Alec Fleming.
Attribution
Attributed to Barbara Fleming.
Given to Barbara Fleming in the catalogue.
Catalogue wording: “Barbara Fleming Unsigned”

Verso
A Fleming in marker.
The reverse is marked “A Fleming” in block capitals. Many boards in the collection carry this marking, and some of them are considered to be by Barbara Fleming. The marking may record ownership rather than authorship and is not treated here as evidence of attribution.
