Description
A single white flower in a glass or ceramic vase, sitting on a red dressed table.
Commentary
A simple still life with some impasto especially for the petals. The small brush strokes and unorthodox perspective point to Barbara’s work, possibly in England. Probably from life.
Attribution
Attributed to Barbara Fleming.
Given to Barbara Fleming in the catalogue.
Catalogue wording: “Barbara Fleming”
Verso
A Fleming.
The reverse is marked “A Fleming” in block capitals. Many boards in the collection carry this marking, and some of them are considered to be by Barbara Fleming. The marking may record ownership rather than authorship and is not treated here as evidence of attribution.
Condition
Some water staining to the verso. Single piercing to the top centre, possibly from informal hanging.
