Description

A distant hilltop village in the shadow of a dominant mountain range, with a turbulent sky and desert in the foreground.

Commentary

The fluid, directional impasto, particularly the clouds set against an azure sky are a signature of later Alec Fleming works. The limited tonal range adds drama, whilst the flat strokes and vigorous brush work serve as a counterpoint to the small impressionistic marks used to suggest the village on the hill.
