Description

Strongly modelled trees and shrubs against a red earth landscape with hills in the distance.

Commentary

A powerfully painted semi abstract landscape with hot Mediterranean colours nodding towards a Fauvist influence on A Fleming. The thickness of the paint and the considered nature of the composition, along with the overlaid colours suggest a painting concluded in more than one sitting. Probably in France from sketches.
