Description

Small study of a farm house with apentis and hangar, on a flat landscape.

Commentary

A delicate small study with a light palette block colours and a flat blue sky. The slight impasto in the sky and sharp, simplified outlines show Alec Fleming in his mature period. Most likley painted in situ in France.

The reverse is marked “A Fleming” in block capitals. Many boards in the collection carry this marking, and some of them are considered to be by Barbara Fleming. The marking may record ownership rather than authorship and is not treated here as evidence of attribution.

Condition

Good condition. Puncture hole to top centre- likely from informal hanging. Unvarnsihed.
