Description

A church viewed through its lych gate with trees in the foreground.

Commentary

A rapidly sketched, vibrant study of an English village church, with the artist using oil paints with a fluidity usual reserved for water colours. The thin paint and use of dry brush marks for the railings and conifers to the right hand side show a confident en plein air painter. Lilkely later in A Fleming’s mature career.
