Description
An unusual subject of a smoking chimney alongside a small harbour with boats.
Commentary
The standing figure to the right of the painting has echoes of the A Fleming painting ‘Man Fishing’ which in turn nods to the approach of LS Lowry in suggested figures with an economy of strokes. Likely painted en plein air. The confident light, skipping brush strokes, especially in the reflection of the chimney are suggestive of a later, confident hand.
