Description
A nude girl, with bobbed hair, standing behind a chair.
Commentary
An accomplished sketch in oils, possibly from a life class. Shows a good command of anatomy and a good choice of pose. Highly likely to be from mid/ late 1970s Alec Fleming style. The mature handling of the paint, especially in the impasto work on the hands suggests a later more evolved work.
Attribution
Attributed to Alec Fleming.
Given to Alec Fleming in the catalogue.
Catalogue wording: “Alec Fleming A Fleming in black letters to verse”
Verso
A Fleming in block letters in marker. No other significant marks.
The reverse is marked “A Fleming” in block capitals. Many boards in the collection carry this marking, and some of them are considered to be by Barbara Fleming. The marking may record ownership rather than authorship and is not treated here as evidence of attribution.
Condition
Good overall. No foxing or water staining.
