Description
A ruined building by an unmade road in a rural setting.
Commentary
Likely painted in France, very much in the Romantic style. Despite its size, this is very much a sketch in situ. It is possible that Fleming has chosen to paint the subject as the light is changing, capturing shadows on the side of the buildlng. The trees and rocks are no more than suggested but with thick impasto and confident brush work.
Attribution
Attributed to Alec Fleming.
Given to Alec Fleming in the catalogue.
