Description
Head of a young woman in a floral chemise. Possibly 1970s.
Commentary
Subtly applied paint in a de- veloped style, detailed working of the flowers in the shirt and flat brush planes of colour making up the skin tones. Hairstyle and clothing suggest 1970s and perhaps late Alec Fleming. Proficiently painted background with effective play of light in greys and blues.
Attribution
Attributed to Alec Fleming.
Given to Alec Fleming in the catalogue.
Catalogue wording: “Alec Fleming.”
Verso
A Fleming in marker- block letters.
The reverse is marked “A Fleming” in block capitals. Many boards in the collection carry this marking, and some of them are considered to be by Barbara Fleming. The marking may record ownership rather than authorship and is not treated here as evidence of attribution.
Condition
Good with some damage to top right hand corner.
