Description
Aples and orange on green fabric with brown paper wrapping.
Commentary
An archetype of Alec Fleming’s work in terms of subject and execution. Strong impasto is used to describe the fruit which catches the light convincingly as do the ridges in the crumpled brown paper. The rapid confident brush marks and sympathetic tones suggest that this larger than usual still life was painted from life, likely in a single sitting.
