Description

A portrait of a woman [Barbara Fleming ]in a polo necked top with short hair.

Commentary

An early work by Alec Fleming of his wife and fellow artist Barbara, most likely from life in a single sitting in England. The diagonal brush strokes show the influence of English modernism whilst the composition and palette nod towards the German Expression- ist movement. Fleming;s signature flat brush work is already evident in the skin tones.
